Hi there! My name is Sam, and I’m a Chicago-based filmmaker specializing in directing and casting. 

As an artist, I think it’s really important to develop a strong foundation in theatrical dramatic principles. I love scripts with clear, compelling narrative thrust, especially if they can tell their stories with only a few characters and locations. 

I’m also a huge fan of rehearsal. It can give people a supportive environment to play while building up creative relationships. As an undergrad at DePaul University, I founded Directors for Actors, a weekly scene study club, so that I (and others) could practice working with actors on a regular basis. 

The rehearsal space can also facilitate genuine collaboration, which is my favorite part of filmmaking in general. I believe that a very good movie is the sum of all the very best ideas from all of the very talented people who worked on it. Whether casting or directing, I’m committed to discovering and creating space for those ideas.
